Meet Dr. Meagan Peek
Pediatrician & Pediatric Cardiologist in Louisville, KY
Hi! I'm Dr. Meagan Peek, and I'm excited to share a new chapter in my journey as a pediatrician.
I grew up in Glasgow, Kentucky, and I've been interested in medicine since middle school. My passion for pediatrics actually began in high school, when I taught piano lessons to elementary school children. I loved getting to know the kids, watching them learn and grow, and being part of their lives—and that experience helped me realize that caring for children was what I wanted to do.
I attended the University of Louisville for both college and medical school, where I also met my husband. I completed my pediatric residency at Norton Children's Hospital in 2014 and then completed my pediatric cardiology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis in 2017.
After fellowship, I worked as an outpatient and fetal pediatric cardiologist at Akron Children's Hospital and then Cincinnati Children's Hospital. My career in pediatric cardiology gave me the opportunity to care for children with a wide range of heart conditions and to work closely with families during some of the most stressful moments of their lives.
Why I Started Little Hearts Pediatrics
The decision to leave Cincinnati Children's Hospital and start Little Hearts Pediatrics was deeply personal.
As a physician and as a mom, I had experienced the frustrations of our healthcare system from both sides.
My children have fantastic doctors, but there were times when I felt like there simply wasn't enough time during an appointment to address all of my questions and concerns. I found myself doing what so many parents do—going home and Googling questions I wished I could have simply asked my child's doctor.
As a physician, I also experienced the difficulty of trying to take time away from work to take my own children to their appointments.
I knew there had to be a better way.
I wanted to create a practice where families had more time with their pediatrician, where parents could ask questions without feeling rushed, and where the relationship between the doctor and the family was at the center of care.
That vision became Little Hearts Pediatrics.
A New Chapter With Direct Pediatrics
After years of caring for families through Little Hearts Pediatrics, I'm excited to share that I have joined Direct Pediatrics and will be seeing patients at their Middletown office in Louisville.
This isn't a departure from the things I loved about Little Hearts Pediatrics. It's an opportunity to build on them.
Joining Direct Pediatrics gives me the ability to continue providing the personalized, relationship-based pediatric care that has always been important to me while expanding the services I can offer to my patients.
Direct Pediatrics is built around the idea that pediatric care should be accessible, personal, and unrushed. Families have access to their pediatrician by phone, text, or video, and the practice offers same-day appointments and longer visits.
For me, this means I can continue doing what I love—getting to know children and their families over time—while having an even greater opportunity to meet their healthcare needs.
Little Hearts Pediatrics is no longer accepting new patients. Instead, I am now seeing patients through Direct Pediatrics at the Middletown location, 161 S English Station Road in Louisville.
And I'm especially excited about what this move allows me to add to my practice.
Expanding the Care I Can Provide
One of the most exciting parts of this transition is being able to bring together several areas of my training and experience under one roof.
General Pediatrics
First and foremost, I'm still a pediatrician.
I love caring for children through all stages of childhood—from newborns and toddlers to school-age children and teenagers.
I'll continue providing comprehensive general pediatric care, including well-child visits, sick visits, developmental concerns, chronic condition management, adolescent care, school and sports needs, and all of the everyday questions that come with raising children.
Pediatric Cardiology
My fellowship training and years of experience in pediatric cardiology are also a big part of who I am as a physician.
I'm excited to bring pediatric cardiology services back into my practice.
I can evaluate children and adolescents with concerns such as:
Heart murmurs
Chest pain
Dizziness
Fainting or syncope
Palpitations or abnormal heart rhythms
High blood pressure
High cholesterol
Abnormal cardiac findings
Family history of heart disease
Other concerns involving the heart and circulation
One of the things I love about pediatric cardiology is being able to help families understand what is happening with their child's heart.
Sometimes that means identifying a problem that needs additional care.
And sometimes, just as importantly, it means being able to tell a worried parent, "Your child's heart is okay."
Pediatric Weight Management
I'm also continuing to offer pediatric weight management visits.
This is an area of care that I believe needs to be approached with compassion and without judgment.
Children and teenagers deserve support that looks at the whole picture—not just a number on a scale.
We can talk about nutrition, physical activity, sleep, growth patterns, family history, medical conditions, lifestyle, and other factors that affect a child's health.
For some adolescents, medication may also be an appropriate part of treatment. When medically appropriate, I can discuss options including GLP-1 medications and oral medications as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
My goal isn't simply to make a number on a scale change.
It's to help children feel better, improve their health, develop sustainable habits, and build a healthier future.
Why I Love Pediatrics
One of my favorite things about pediatrics is the ability to follow patients throughout their lives.
You don't just have one patient in the room.
You have at least two—the child and the parent.
A child's health affects the entire family, and a parent's concerns, questions, and fears matter.
I want families to feel comfortable telling me what they're worried about, even if they aren't sure whether something is important.
I want parents to leave an appointment understanding what is going on and knowing what to do next.
And I want children to grow up knowing that their pediatrician is someone they can trust.
A Pediatrician, Cardiologist, and Mom
Outside of medicine, I'm a wife and mom to two children, and we also have a French bulldog who keeps our family entertained.
Being a mom has shaped the way I practice medicine just as much as my medical training has.
I know what it's like to worry about your child.
I know what it's like to sit in a doctor's office and have a million questions running through your head.
I know what it's like to wonder whether you're overreacting—or whether you should be more concerned.
And I know how much it means when your child's doctor takes the time to listen.
When I'm not working, I enjoy playing the piano and participating in vocal and handbell choirs at my church. Most of my free time, though, is spent with my husband, our children, and our dog.
The Same Heart for Pediatric Care. More Ways to Care for Your Child.
I'm incredibly grateful for every family who trusted me through Little Hearts Pediatrics.
That experience reminded me over and over again why I chose pediatrics in the first place: relationships matter.
Joining Direct Pediatrics gives me the opportunity to continue those relationships while expanding what I can offer children and families.
I'm excited to continue caring for your children through general pediatrics, pediatric cardiology, and pediatric weight management—and I'm excited about what this next chapter will make possible.
Thank you for trusting me with what matters most.
I can't wait to meet you and your family at Direct Pediatrics in Middletown.
